Rhuddlan

Rhuddlan is a picturesque village with a rich history dating back over 3000 years and is derived from the Welsh words Rhudd and Glan, translated means Red Bank.

Ideally located on the bank of the River Clwyd, screened by the Clwydian mountain range but it is the Castle and Church that welcomes visitors into the village.

Only 5 minute walk from Abbey Farm, Rhuddlan has it all – shops, pubs, restaurants, takeaways, petrol station and a chemist.

Only 30 minutes drive from Chester, 8 minutes from the A55 and 5 minutes from Rhyl – it is a great base to explore surrounding North Wales.

Rhuddlan is a bustling village with a annual family run music festival, Rhuddfest, is a must that really brings the community together.

So if you are looking to explore and enjoy the myths and legends of the Village, travel the miles of cycle routes and walkways or to stay at Abbey Farm for a relaxing getaway –  Rhuddlan has it all.

Bodrhyddan Hall

Bodrhyddan Hall is a beautiful Grade I 17th-century stately home and has been the home of Lord Langford and his family for over 500 years. Set in several acres of stunning gardens and woodlands, it is one of the few remaining stately homes in Wales.  The Hall offers events during the year with guided tours to view the fine art, classical furniture and impressive collection of armour which wouldn’t be complete without an afternoon tea.

Rhuddlan Castle

Towering above the River Clwyd, built in 1277 by King Edward I.  Rhuddlan Castle was erected as part of the English Conquest of Wales.  A remarkable feat of engineering. You will enjoy seeing the amazing architecture that features a distinctive concentric design popular in late medieval forts.  Also, you’ll get to see the successive rings of turreted walls that would have provided the perfect defence against any potential attackers.

Twt Hill

A medival mound where a long lost castle once stood.  The impressive remains of the motte and bailey castle were built on the orders of Robert of Rhuddlan in 1073 in order to consolidate Norman gains in North East Wales.

After a lovely stroll from the Castle to the top of Twt Hill, known locally as Bonc Hill, where you will be rewarded with stunning 3600 panaromic views.

Nature Reserve

Rhuddlan Nature Reserve is a peaceful location where wildlife thrives.  A pretty walk will take you along the reserve where you will be rewarded with stunning wildlife.  Meanwhile, you will come across beautifully crafted sculptures and even get to see the ducks and swans on the lake.
